ANS:  Scientific method has helped us by making various fertilizers and pesticides. Moreover, food is preserved by quick-freeze method. Modern methods of selecting, grading and processing food are free from the danger of poisoning it.

Q4: How has scientific method enabled us to get over the old fears? OR How are we different from our forefathers in outlook? OR We are now generally less fearful than our ancestors. What were our ancestors afraid of?

ANS: Our forefathers were superstitious. They believed in the signs of good or bad luck. They were afraid of black cats, broken mirrors and the number 13.  But now old fears are got over because the scientific method has taught us that they have no solid basis. There is always a reason for everything.

ANS: Water is supplied to Los Angeles by a pipeline from the Colorado river which is 544 kilometers away.
Q6: How was food preserved in the past?

ANS: In the past, food was preserved by canning, pickling and drying. Meat was preserved by salting, drying or freezing in cold weather.

Q7: What is the method of dehydration for preserving food? OR What is the practical method of preserving food today?


ANS: Dehydration is the removal of water from food. It is a practical method of preservation.
