A Comparison of Top Universities of Pakistan:

I graduated from NUST. Did Masters from UET Taxila. Served a Campus of UET Lahore for 2 Years. Served in EME College, NUST for 2 Years, Served at UET Taxila for 6 years. Interacted with graduates and faculty from all universities.

Here is my summary of observations;

Top 3 engineering universities in Pakistan regardless of what HEC says are;
UETs (UET Lahroe and Taxila), GIKI, NUST
Note: The order above is trivial

GIKI Graduates are damn good at communication skills. But lack in technical skills
UET Graduates are damn good at technical skills but lack in communication skills
NUST Graduates are slightly less good than GIKI in communication skills and slightly less good than UET in technical skills.

You may say NUST is the worst of both worlds or the best of both worlds, perspective is your choice
Another unique feature of NUST is Civil + Military interaction
Military interaction is not really an incentive truly but a valuable insight keeping in mind Pakistani perspective. It helps a lot

I do not mean to prove superiority or inferiority of any university. Just like Men and Women are different but equal so is the case with these 3 universities.

When organizations need people with exceptional communication skills mostly GIKI graduate gets 1st preference, NUST Graduate 2nd and UET 3rd (Exceptions to it are always there)

When organizations need people with technical skills, the preference becomes; 1. UET 2. NUST 3. GIKI (Once again exceptions are always there)

When organizations need people with a mix; NUST graduate becomes the ultimate choice.

Its my humble opinion. Not final by any means. I am open to any logical disagreements / additions to it.

Distribution of Seats:

Candidates would be competing for the total of 3305 seats, out of which:

2989 are open merit seats
19 seats for disabled students ( 2,2 each in KEMU, AIMC, NMC, FJMC, SIMS, PMC, RMC, QAMC and 1 seat in SMC )
1 seat for Cholistan in SZMC (Sheikh Zayed Medical College, RYK)
A total of 49 seats for underdeveloped districts ( 18 seats in NMC, 10 seats in PMC, 6 seats in QAMC and 15 seats in SZMC)
7 seats for FATA (1,1 each in KEMU, AIMC, NMC, FJMC, PMC, RMC and QAMC)
26 seats for Azad Jammu & Kashmir ( 3 seats in NMC, 10 in FJMC, 2 in SIMS, 3 in PMC, 3 in RMC, 3 in QAMC and 2 seats in SZMC)

- Applying For the ET is a standard procedure. You wait for the dates. You have to get the forms from the institutes that are mentioned in ads and on the website of UHS (I'll update as soon as I get to know) , fill them up and submit it back. Then they give you an ID card that you'd have to take to your test center. No online forms etc.

Tests to be taken by students of other Provinces:

Students having domicile of FATA would've to appear in the ET held by the KPK government i.e. EATA.
Those having domicile of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, they would take the ET held by Azad Jammu and Kashmir Government.
Students of Baluchistan would've to take the ET of Baluchistan.
Students having the domicile of Gilgit-Baltistan should appear in the ET held by Punjab government.

 Under developed Districts include:

D.G. Khan : 11 seats for MBBS ( 6 seats in NMC out of which 03 seats are for tribal areas, 4 seats in SZMC out of which 02 seats are for tribal areas), 2 for BDS ( 1 in DCD and 1 for tribal areas in NID)
Muzzafargarh: 8 seats for MBBS (4 in NMC, 1 in QAMC, 3 in SZMC) and 2 seats for BDS (1 in DCD and 1 in NID)
Rajjanpur: 7 seats for MBBS ( 04 in NMC out of which 02 seats are for tribal areas, 1 in QAMC and 2 seats in SZMC out of which 01 seat is for tribal areas) and 2 seats for BDS ( 1 in DCD and 1 for tribal areas in NID)
Lodhran: 7 seats for MBBS (4 in NMC, 1 in QAMC and 2 in SZMC) 2 for BDS in DCD and NID.
Bhakkar: 8 seats for MBBS ( 1 in QAMC, 5 in PMC and 1 in SZMC) 2 for BDS in NID and DCD.
Layyah: Same as that for Bhakkar

- For reciprocal seats, students from other provinces on reciprocal basis will be selected by respective provincial government.

About the Test-There is negative marking in the Etest held under the Punjab government. there are total 220 MCQ's. Each MCQ is of 5 marks. For every correct answers, you get 5 marks and for every wrong answer; 6 marks would be deducted from the total. eg. Supposedly if you get 2 mcqs right and 1 wrong, your total would be 9 out of 15 marks. 2 right= 5+5=10 marks and 1 incorrect answer: 5+1= -6 out of the total. there are no marks deducted for the unattempted questions.

DUET Admission Policy:

Admission to the first year session 2013-2014 is done according to the Dawood University of Engineering & Technology policy and the rules. The rules of admission mentioned here are subject to the modification / revision by the competent authority from time to time. The university reserves the right to make any changes with regard to admission rules.

Determination of Merit:

Pre-Admission Test:

All candidates seeking admission under following schemes / categories and whose application forms are found valid are eligible in appear in pre-admission test (entry test) to be conducted by Mohammad Ali Jinnah University, Karachi. The venue and date of test shall be announced separately.

Sindh / Rural, (HSC/BSc/Diploma/Sports), seats for AJK, Federal Capital Area of Islamabad, Dawood Foundation, seats reserved for sons and daughter of DUET staff/non-teaching staff / professional engineers / architect / town planners, self finanace scheme local / foreign

The test will be conducted in the following subjects

Physics

Chemistry

Mathematics

English

Computer Science

Determination of Merit Position:

Marks Weightage

1) Matriculation 10%

2) Intermediate(Pre-Engg)/BSc (Pass) / Diploma 40%

3) Pre-Admission Test 50%

The admission in each category shall be made in order of priority as per the following Tiers.

Tier No.1 Candidate who secures at least 50% marks in the pre-admission test.

Tier No. 2 Candidate who secure 40% to 49.99% marks in the pre-admission Test.

Tier No. 3 Candidate who secure 30% to 39.99% in the pre-admission Test.

Tier No. 4 Candidate who secure 20% to 29.99% in the pre-admission test.

Candidate having secured less then 20% marks in the pre-admission test shall be not eligible for the admission in DUET.

Eligibility Criteria

He/She must have passed either Higher School Examination (HSC) with optional subjects of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from any authorized Board of Education in Pakistan or an equivalant Foreign Examination recognized as such by the University and should fulfill the following conditions:

Each applicant should have obtained at least 60% marks in aggregate (excluding grace marks).

The year of passing the examination held should not be earlier than the two years immediately prior to submission of application.

They should not be more than 22 years of age on the date of receipt of application form as prescribed by the University.

The candidates who have passed intermediate (General Science Group) with a combination of Physics, Mathematics and Computer studies / Computer Science are eligible for their admission only in Electronic Engineering, Computer System Engineering & Telecommunication Engineering. They will not claim their admission in any other discipline.

The Candidate who have passed examination or equivalent examination before Annual Examination 2010 shall not be eligible for admission.

The candidate having passed examination equivalent to H.Sc(Pre-Engineering)from Education Institution located in Pakistan have to obtain equivalence certificate from Inter Board Committee Islamabad before the last date of receipt of application form as prescribed by the College.

University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Faisalabad

This is a campus of University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore. The campus is located on Khurrianwala-Makkuana Road, Faisalabad which is the hub of all industrial enterprises in the country.

Faisalabad campus is offering bachelor’s degree in following three Engineering Disciplines relevant to Faisalabad Industrial Zone.
